Despite considerable opposition within the Senate and from civil organizations, Senate Republicans will likely have enough votes to confirm Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the US Supreme Court in early October. The question for progressives is what an ultra-conservative Supreme Court means for the issues we care about such as voter suppression, the corporate takeover of our culture, health care, abortion rights, police brutality, and racial oppression. Lynne will give an overview of how the Court operates, what a hard-core conservative majority might look like and what options we have.
Lynne Wilson is a civil rights attorney who has practiced in Seattle for over 30 years. She has handled police misconduct and prisoner rights cases in federal courts. She was a member of the ACLU Legal Committee for ten years and participated in one first amendment case that was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
